The perfect Dirty Martini...
With one day to practice before New Years Eve we're going to share our favorite martini recipe with you.
Chill the classic martini glass by filling with ice and water. Let it set while you get things going.
Take tall glass and fill with small ice cubes. Pour 4 oz Bombay Sapphire Gin slowly, slowly over the ice.
Add 1/2 oz dry vermouth to the glass.
Do not shake. Bond takes his shaken, not stirred, but he drinks vodka martinis. Gin is a fine beverage that deserves more respect. Shaking adds air to the gin, and spoils the taste. Swirl the gin slowly in the glass for 10 to 15 seconds. Set it down.
Assemble an olive on a toothpick. We prefer anchovy stuffed olives for the DM. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. Lots of good things smell like fish.
Dump the ice water chilling the martini glass.
OK, here's the dirty part. Add two tablespoons of brine from the olive jar to the martini glass.
Put a strainer on top of the glass with the gin and vermouth and pour SLOWLY into the martini glass.
From about 2 inches above the glass, drop the olive and toothpick into the drink. Should make a satisfying PLOOP sound. Wipe up any splash.
If you've done everything correctly, you should be able to look down into the martini glass and see several distinct swirls of transparent fluid, different temperatures and consistencies still moving about. That is fine, very fine.
Drink while cold. Practice with a friend. Don't drink and drive. Don't use these instructions unless you're of legal drinking age, no matter what your strange uncle tells you.
