It's gotta be rock-n-roll music...
History can be fun. Case in point.
Twenty years ago today the USA failed to capture Manuel Noriega, then military dictator of Panama. Held up in Apostolic Nunciature, the Holy See's embassy in Panama, he was surrounded by US troops until the Nuncio compelled Noriega to leave.
How, why?
The troops could not storm the embassy. That's the point of embassies, attacking them is like declaring war on the owning country. But, they could change the environment. In Operation Nifty Package, troops bombarded the embassy with loud music. And if you remember 80's music, it's a wonder it wasn't deemed a declaration of war anyway. Noriega surrendered shortly later.
Remember folks, Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up is a proven munition.
Actually, the only song we're sure they used was Van Halen's Panama. But then we couldn't have Rick Rolled you... |
