Return lessons learned...
When you return from a long absence, it's often good to share some of what you learned. (We learned this from some friends recently.) A few quick notes...
The mixing of beer and hard liquor is even less advisable when you're talking about local Mexican beers.
Elevators break. Sometimes we're on them. This does not mean we broke the elevator. And no, we don't know where all that water came from.
American Airlines is a joke - avoid like the plague. Check in five hours early, and our bags are the ones that get "bumped" to another flight? Their way of apologizing: expedited delivery (which is just another way of saying hurrying it to you the next day.) A real apology here would have involved the question of whether they would spit or swallow after.
You really don't miss reading about George W. when you're not in the US. Does seem like the rest of the world has written him off already.
Getting a good Thai Iced Tea in Haiti is a lost cause. Explaining it is comical. What they deliver is not drinkable. Hey, they asked what we wanted.
Explaining to a waitress that she's the spitting image of Evangeline Lilly is not always a pick up line, especially when her little island doesn't get ABC or a decent Internet connection.
It's always funny to watch some meathead try to cram his 14" thick bag into the 12" tall overhead compartment. That is until pieces of the plane start breaking off...
We've said this before, but so many of you are so young and inexperienced: Tip your waiters big and early. It's an investment that pays of in ways you can only imagine.
If you close up your home for an extended period of time, have someone you know come in the day before you get back to air it out. That's one we always remember too late.
Kind of sad to see so little changed in the news in the time away. Status quo for Clinton/Obama, Microsoft/Yahoo, Bush/Competency... at least we've got a few movies and a whole bunch of Tivo to catch up on while we readjust to the current time zone...
