Um, what about us on the ground?
Space shuttle Atlantis departs tomorrow from the newly expanded International Space Station, headed for home. Early. Why? Because the US military plan to shoot down a dead spy satellite and wants the "skys to be clear."
Hmmm, seems like somehow it might be safer in space than here on the ground. Isn't that stuff falling down? Haven't they already said that anyone hit by falling spy satellite bits will be compensated?
Or maybe it's a show of faith. "Yes, you're safe here on the planet. See, we're bringing down an otherwise uninvolved shuttle to show you just how secure we think you all are here on the ground."
We'll be spending the day indoors, thank you very much.
