Infamy is Relative
One of the crucial days in American history: the event that pushed the US into World War II; the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese fleet. In days following, President Roosevelt addressed Congress and dubbed December 7th "A date that will live in infamy." Of course, that was just one man's opinion...
Of course, the US can't hold a grudge and we've forgiven the Japanese for all of this, we helped rebuild their industry, and gave them favored trade status. And look how well that's turned out!
Can't imagine what folks we might forgive some twenty years from now. Or ten years, or five?
Most folks today recall it through two movies: Pearl Harbor and Tora Tora Tora. We recommend T3, PH is more about telling a Ben Aflec story than the events of the day. |
