Long-time readers will recall we got excited about the Hellboy movie when it was announced. Well, it didn't live up to expectations. Most of those expectations were based on the source material, painstakingly created by Mike Mignola, who does more painstaking research before starting a new project than the current US administration. Well, we mean to say he does much, much more research than anyone who has ever used the term "Weapons of Mass Destruction" to justify a personal vendetta. Mignola typically mixes myths, mythos, religious stories, and two-fisted adventure with his uniquely sparse but compelling artistic style.
But we digress.
"The Amazing Screw-On Head" is one of Mignola's lesser-known works, which oddly enough has surfaced on the Sci-Fi Channel as a pilot. While we understand that the reluctance of making a seven foot tall hornless demon the hero of what people in the bible belt will continue to think of as "kiddie entertainment," even if he carries a BFG, but we still wish the source for this animated effort were Hellboy over the somewhat whacky SOH.
But, we have to give SFC a nodd for at least passing this by folks on their web site. And you can enjoy 20-some commercial free minutes of pilot they have provided.
Emperor Zombie: You let
me down. You went on and on about how sweet
the candy was, then told me not to put it in
my mouth, and got mad at me when I did.
Screw-On Head: If by "candy," you mean ancient forbidden evil, then yes, I told you not to put it in your mouth. |
