Happy Birthday Rose
While it's not necessarily pleasant to consider a ninety year old stripper, we have to take a moment to honor the woman who put "art" in the bump and grind. Gypsy Rose Lee, born Rose Louise Hovick, is credited with taking the art of the strip-tease out of the vaudeville between act and make it headline-worthy.
Rose was also an accomplished mystery novel author and playwright, and her biography was turned into the Broadway show Gypsy! (Man, this is starting to sound like a ninth-grade essay.)
Favorite quote attributed to Rose during the famous police raid on Minsky's: I wasn't naked. I was completely covered by a blue spotlight.
