Land of the free, and repressed...
News that the full-frontal footage in the Meg Ryan erotic thriller In the Cut would be cut "from US showings" once again defines "us" as parochial beyond reason. Eliminating scenes that would offend viewers who were unlikely to ever view the movie is just another example of how the maniac militant "moral" minority have corporate America shaking in their imaginary profit lines. (Of course the fact that many of the MMMM carry guns for their god these days, and large hunks of Hollywood are run by profit driven Japanese companies may have something to do with it.)
We are reminded how Kubrick's final bow Eyes Wide Shut got a similar post-directorial editing. With Stanley safely in his grave, additional actors were digitally edited into orgy scenes to "hide the good stuff." Of course the Europeans got to see the film as God and SK intended.
Land of the free? We're not sure that Bushland qualifies for that bumper sticker any more. If it went to court, Sweden could probably steal our trademark.
In exactly 10 days, we're making a subtle change to the evil.com home page.
We're having a contest: anyone who can successfully predict what change that
would be will get their name published as "too smart for their own good." Clue #3 - Nothing to do with colors or fonts. You can send guesses through the standard method. If you can't figure out the standard method, you're obviously not "too smart for your own good." Everything you need to figure it out is right on this site. And for clarity's sake, since accurate time is sooooo important, we're talking about a change that will happen sometime on 10/31/2003. Lots of entries so far, and only a handful have gotten it right: "Nick Jones", "Beck Ryan" and "John Stamm". Congrats Boys - You're officially too smart for your own good. |
