we get it
August 9, 2003
29 years ago today...
Richard Milhouse Nixon, 37th president of the United States of America, resigned the presidency rather than be further disgraced by the exposure of greed and lawlessness he was willing to use to maintain his grip on presidential power. He was impeached for sanctioning illegal break-ins related to discrediting his Democratic party political opponents.
In a moment of clear comparison we skip ahead twenty-five years to the Republican-led attack on the Clinton presidency, where lying about getting blown in the oval office was put forward as equally severe cause for impeachment. Of course that attempt failed, but we did get W as a result.
Sometimes you just have to stand back and admire the total disregard of common sense for political gain as a running theme of some people.
